What is futsal?

Futsal is the 5-a-side version of soccer that is officially supported and governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). First created for young people in Uruguay in 1930, futsal has steadily gained global popularity since the game’s adoption by FIFA in 1989. An estimated 30 million people play futsal worldwide, and it is recognized by FIFA as the “fastest growing indoor sport in the world.” Futsal is played on a hard court without walls, using a smaller ball than regular soccer and a standard match consists of two 20-minute halves.
